Creed hits Phoenix

The band plays Human Clay in its entirety

Not exactly what I was expecting.

For whatever reason, I was kind of expecting to see Creed back in their heyday. Sure, they have had their issues, and broke up for a bit, but with playing Human Clay and My Own Prison at various shows in their entirety, I thought surely attendance would be huge.

Nope. At least not at the half filled Comerica Theater in Phoenix.

Plain and simple, the band was tight. Scott Stapp’s vocals were dead on, and Mark Tremonti was energized and flawless. And you also got a sense that the band buried whatever bad memories may have existed at one time – during Say I, the guitarist had a cable go out halfway through the song. Stapp stopped the band and waited for it to get fixed, then announced "This song can't be played without Mark Tremonti" which got the crowd going as the band launched the song over again.

Overall, it was a decent show. They played Human Clay in it’s entirety, and finished off the night with My Own Prison, One Last Breath and My Sacrifice.

Maybe there was too much emphasis on playing the album in it’s entirety as the crowd seemed to become disconnected during the slower tempo songs, and may have only really remembered the hits. The band probably should have concentrated on a Greatest Hits setlist, with newer songs thrown in the mix, before playing either of these discs in their entirety on tour. Neither disc has even hit the 15 year mark, let alone the 20-25-30+ year anniversaries that other bands are celebrating.
