What an evening!!! $250 for two tickets and worth every penny. They played the new record, X, straight through the PA system when the crowd was first let in. Then as the last song ended, the lights went down.
One thousand screaming fans made as much noise as if they were playing MSG. Def Lep walked out on to the stage... and Joe Elliott ask the crowd one simple question... "Do You Wanna Get Rocked?" They ripped thru “Let's Get Rocked,” “Promises” and “Foolin'.”
They welcomed the enthusiastic crowd and continued to play hit after hit... “Animal,” “Hysteria,” “Love Bites” and soon-to-be classic “Now,” from the new record. Did I mention how freakin' hot it was...? A little air condition would have been nice!!! Then on to “Photograph,” “Rocket,” “Armageddon It,” “Pour Some Sugar On Me” and “Rock of Ages.”
They left the stage, only to come back for a blazing encore of “Rock, Rock (‘Til You
Drop.”) I've seen Def Leppard eight times before -- from 1987 to 2000 -- and they never sounded better then on July 29th. A short set, but an effective one. The fact that the show sold out in less then five minutes is a testament to the bands longevity and ability to make great music for twenty plus years.
If you get a chance to see Def Lep on their upcoming tour, do yourself a favor and go see one the best live shows in rock... and in music, period. And don't forget to check out the new record, X, it's one hell of a record.
