Shadows Fall will tour with Mushroomhead from late October to late November (more details to be announced soon.). SF will do an in-store tonight, September 20th at Vintage Vinyl in Fords, NJ and will hold a record release party at Cambridge, MA's Middle East (downstairs) on September 21st. In a special promotion, the first 150 people to buy The Art Of Balance at any Newbury Comics store will receive a free ticket to the record release show. The first pressing of the album features a bonus CD-ROM disc and a slipcase. The CD-ROM (PC/Mac compatible) contains a band biography, 50 picture photo gallery, video interview, links and the following three live performances: "Destroyer Of Sense" (Live at Club Krome - 5/31/02), "Thoughts Without Words" (Live at Club Krome - 5/31/02) and "Of One Blood" (Bootlegged at Club Cyclone in Tokyo, Japan - 2001).

Bassist Roger Glover (Deep Purple) will appear in a new movie made by Phish bassist Mike Gordon. The movie is a documentary about the recording session of Gov't Mule's The Deep End. It's called Rising Low and will also feature other bass players such as Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers), Jack Bruce (Cream), Les Claypool (Primus), etc. The film debuts at the Woodstock Film Festival (USA) on Saturday, September 21st and will also be released on DVD and VHS October 8th.

Alice Cooper will appear on The Late Late Show With Craig Kilborn on CBS (U.S) September 25th.

Theory Of A Deadman will be making their live performance debut in Los Angeles on Thursday, October 10th at the Viper Room on Sunset Blvd. In Hollywood.

Cryptopsy will be headlining the Xtreme Benefest (which will also include Internal Bleeding, Internal Suffering, Gorgasm, Devourment, Regurgitation and more TBA) on Saturday, November 16th, 2002. This two-day event -- which is to benefit guitarist James Murphy (ex-Testament/Death) who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year -- will take place at the Royal Oak Theater in Royal Oak (MI) near Detroit. OSI -- a new project which features guitarist Jim Matheos (Fates Warning), keyboardist Kevin Moore (Chroma Key, ex-Dream Theater) and drummer Mike Portnoy (Dream Theater) – will release their debut album, Office of Strategic Influence in the fall of 2002 on InsideOut Music America. Matheos, Moore and Portnoy are the core of the band, and Moore does most of the lead vocals, but Office of Strategic Influence will also feature special guest vocalists to be announced, and guest bass guitarist Sean Malone (Gordian Knot). Dokken’s gig at the Icon Nightclub in Palo Alto, CA which was scheduled for September 27th has been cancelled, with no given reason. Apparently the date will be made up in November.

Drummer Danny Schuler (Biohazard) has now officially joined Among Thieves, replacing Will Shepler (ex-Agnostic Front), who left the group to pursue other interests outside of the music industry. Schuler still remains a member of Biohazard, and will work with both bands.

Overkill will be ready to “roll tape” beginning October 1st, utilizing Colin Richardson (ie Carcass, Fear Factory) to produce the group's forthcoming as-yet-untitled full-length album.

Bassist Flea (Red Hot Chili Peppers and Jack Osbourne were among the celebrity buyers at Marilyn Manson’s personal art exhibit. Manson’s “The Golden Age of Grotesque” art exhibit will be open to the public today, Friday, September 20th, and admission is free. The gallery is located at 6522 Hollywood Blvd., Hollywood, CA, where apparently Manson will appear throughout the evening.

The Rolling Stones will celebrate their 40th anniversary The Rolling Stones at the First Union Center in Philadelphia, PA on Friday, September 20th.

Saliva and Audiovent add Theory of a Deadman to their tour line-up, which kicks off on October 25th. Dates have yet to be announced.

The Chris Cornell/Rage Against the Machine project, now known as Audioslave, are rumored to be releasing their first single, “Cochese,” from their forthcoming debut album – which is apparently eyeing a November 19th release through Epic – on October 1st. Additionally, they appear to be scheduled to shoot a video for the single in Los Angeles at the end of September with director Mark Romanek, who did Nine Inch Nail’s “Closer” video.

The Osbournes MTV show has already nabbed a Creative Arts Emmy (“Pre”-Emmys in technical categories) for “Outstanding Non-Fiction Program (Reality).” This is the only category the series was nominated in. The official 54th Annual Emmy Awards ceremony will take place on September 22nd.

Dream Theater cancelled their gigs on October 19th in Bradford, England and on November 10th Montpelier, France "due to technical and traveling logistics."

Spitfire Records reports the following: For the first time in its historic and storied existence, Harpo's Concert Theater in Detroit, MI actually ran out of beer. During Black Label Society's performance on Saturday, September 14th, the 3,000 seat "oldest concert theater in North America" was reportedly emptied of its last drop of the stuff as concert-goers, along with the band, took Wylde's infamous "alcohol fueled brewtality" mantra to heart. For those unable to attend (and for those who were there but can't remember) the entire show was filmed for Black Label Society's first-ever DVD release coming in 2003.

It appears that guitarist Slash has confirmed that he is indeed working on an album with his other ex-Guns N’ Roses bandmates bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, with hopes to release said album in 2003.

American Dog -- which features Michael Hannon (ex-Salty Dog, ex-Dangerous Toys) – will release their sophomore effort, Red, White, Black & Blue worldwide October 1st, 2002. ‘Dog fans can get an advance copy online before it hits the shelves through the band’s Merch link or at Outlaw Recordings.

The UK release of Hate Eternal’s forthcoming album, King Of All Kings, has been delayed until September 23rd.

Helloween have finally found a replacement for last year’s dismissed member, Roland Grapow, in guitarist Sascha Gerstner (ex-Freedom Call), who will be recording with the group on their next album to be released in 2003.

Endo has changed the title to their forthcoming album to Faces of Our Innocence. The album is expected in early 2003 through Columbia.

Vocalist Gary Cherone (ex-Van Halen, ex-Extreme) commands an aggressive and atmospheric brand of edgy rock with his new outfit, Tribe of Judah, as they release their debut album, Exit Elvis, on Spitfire Records on October 22, 2002.

Vocalist Phil Anselmo (Down, Pantera) has set up dates for his infamous annual House of Shock in Louisiana, just outside of New Orleans. Check out HouseOfShock.com for all the details.

Bassist Dee Dee Ramone (Ramones) did indeed die on June 5th, 2002 as a result of a heroin overdose, according to the Medical Examiner’s office in Los Angeles, CA, which filed the autopsy report on September 12th. Ramone would have turned 50 tomorrow, September 18th.

Bassist Les Claypool’s Colonel Claypool's Bucket Of Bernie Brains, which also features Guns N’ Roses members guitarist Buckethead and drummer Brain, recorded their recent California gigs, which will be used in a future live album. Details to follow.

The old news is the brawl that took place between vocalist Vince Neil (Motley Crue) and a record producer, who claims Neil attacked him unprovoked in April. The new news is that the producer is now suing Neil in excess of 1 million dollars, and is dragging club/restaurant owner Mario Maglieri, who runs the famous Rainbow Bar & Grill on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood, CA, into the lawsuit, as the altercation took place in front of the establishment.

Unwritten Law was filming a video in Yellowstone National Park recently. While they thought it to be a good idea for drummer Wade Youman to hang out in the river as part of the video, the drummer proceeded to completely disrobe and do naked handstands in the river. Park authorities were not amused, and promptly ticketed Youman for misconduct.

Although Blind Guardian announced that Symphony X would be their opener for their forthcoming US tour, they now claim that it has yet to be confirmed. In other news, Blind Guardian has been tapped to tour Europe with Stratovarius in early 2003.

VH1’s hour-long special, Tommy Lee: The Naked Truth (the first of two), will begin airing on September 26th. Check your local listings at VH1.

Systematic will begin recording their next album on September 23rd. Although they currently do not have a bassist, they do hold in their ranks drummer Paul Bostaph (ex-Slayer).

Drummer Rikard Stjernquist has joined a new band called Ballistic, although Stjernquist will continue his duties in Jag Panzer.

Shadows Fall will keep the tour-machine running, now adding Mushroomhead to their itinerary beginning later October. Dates and venues have yet to be announced.

Napalm Death’s forthcoming studio album, Order of the Leech is ready for release through Snapper Music in Europe on October 21st, and through Spitfire Records in the US sometime shortly thereafter.

Mudvayne’s as-of-yet untitled studio album, with producer Dave Bottrill (Tool) will be ready for release on November 19th through Epic Records.

The Ravenous -- which features in its ranks Danny Lilker (S.O.D., ex-Anthrax) and Killjoy (Necrophagia) -- have inked a deal with Southern Lord Records. The band will enter a studio in Vancouver, Canada this November to record their next full-length effort, Blood Delirium, for an early 2003 release.

Static-X are trying to get guitarist Dimebag Darrell (Pantera) and vocalist Aaron Lewis (Staind) to record some material on their next album, which will be released sometime in early 2003.

Long Beach) wanted to share the following information with fellow Southern California metal heads: the Velvet Underground, a staple record store in Long Beach, CA specializing in it’s rare metal vinyl albums, will be closing it’s doors after 25 years. Their last day will be Sunday, September 15th. Owner Bob Dalton says many people would stop in, looking for info on KNAC, and would pass out our stickers regularly and spread the good word. The project of Rage Against the Machine and vocalist Chris Cornell (ex-Soundgarden) finally has a new name: Audioslave. It appears they are in the recording process, and intend on releasing something next year in 2003 through Epic Records. An official webiste has just been launched for the band: audioslavemusic.com.

Guitarists Slash and Dave Navarro, who have teamed up in Los Angeles and San Diego for Jimi Hendrix tribute gigs, are rumored to get together again with an all-star band at an as-of-yet disclosed location this Halloween. KNAC.COM has photos of the San Diego gig, which will be posted shortly.

Vocalist Steven Tyler (Aerosmith) will sing the national anthem at an upcoming charity hockey game run by actor-comedian Denis Leary. The event, dubbed the Celebrity Hat Trick, will be presented by EMC Corporation and will take place September 29th at 3 PM (EST) at the Centrum Centre in Worcester, Massachusetts. Les Claypool's Frog Brigade, the Used, and (International) Noise Conspiracy are just some of the hundreds of acts who will play this year's annual CMJ Music Marathon (October 30th - November 2nd) in New York.

Sammy Hagar is scheduled to release his latest solo album, Not 4 Sale, on October 8th through 33rd Street Records.

Vocalist Bret Michaels (Poison) has posted his 9/11 tribute song – one that he wrote the day after the tragedy last year – on his website at BretMichaels.com.

Metallica will release their “book of lyrics” on October 1st, and will reissue their 1993 Live Shit: Binge and Purge box set as a DVD on November 12th, which will also contain their Mexico City concert on 3 CDs and DVDs of their shows in San Diego and Seattle.

Staind will release their MTV Unplugged performance on DVD, due out on November 12th.

Candiria were forced to cancel their tour with 40 Below Summer, as they were in a major traffic accident in Buffalo, NY. Although the band did not report any critical injuries, John LaMacchia did break his collarbone.

However, Dickinson made time to grab his Maiden pals -- drummer Nicko McBrain and guitarist Janick Gers -- to jam onstage with Deep Purple for “Smoke on the Water” at the latter’s London gig at the Hammersmith Apollo last Saturday, according to Blabbermouth.net.
