Will 2003 Bring Heavy Metal Back in Full Force?

By Sefany Jones, Contributing Editor

How do you think the new year will progress music-wise? Do you see a heavier trend setting in, or do you see a crumbling of the metal music scene?

I just heard iced earth for the first time.. as for the back ground music they sound realy good... but as for the vocals they suck... they could use a new lead singer.... they cant sing... i would never buy anything from them.. i take good charlotte over their lame music... iced earth almost sucks....

metal_rules_03 - 9/9/2003 8:06:15 AM
death metal sucks.. rrrrrrrroooooor. i know that any one who just acts like a stupid demon is lame... death metal should be killed and brought to death... metal is very alive now... and its better then the 80s i still love 80s metal.. but watch a 80s video then watch nu metal video... 80s will look like classic rock... old metal bands remaking their songs is great. they sound better......

metal_rules_03 - 9/8/2003 9:49:44 PM
metal is better now.. it never went away... fuse rocks... head bangers ball... i hope it does not get as bad as the 80s alot of stupid people liked metal in the 80s. they were not true. girls liking a guy because he was cute dumb stuff like that.. metal already does kill all music.. got my mtv 2 and fuse tv... realy loved mtvx... metal is making fools out of wannabes... metal has been the best the last 4 years....

real metal sadly will never hit MTV or top 40 airwaves. however the scene is always alive and burgeoning with new bands, new flavors, and avid fans. it is also true though that there has been very little innovation since the near-death of black metal towards the ends of the 90s, but i predict a new movement or reemergence of true artistic innovation in an older one will revive the scene before long, as it always has.

My solutions - get a wife or husband and bear 20 to 30 children. Then teach all of them at an early to literally worship good true Metal. If a lot of people do this, well have a new generation of metalheads. Also make them appreciate a lifestyle, not a scene or a trend. Trends always fade away.

oleVonBastardo - 3/1/2003 2:30:13 AM
no. never happen. MTV VH1 and the media push anti-white agenda and metal will never climb over the top of the power of rap. rap is run by thugs, drug dealers and idiots and most of the rap buyers are white. face it people it's over but we can still have it but it will never be able to compete with the sickness in our society today making these rap assholes big rich criminals... sorry. METAL IS MY LIFE!!!

sewerheadknac - 1/22/2003 2:10:05 AM
well, heavy metal was destine for reinvention, every dacade brought something new to contribute to the music ,but what happenned with all the new technology, people just got lazy,pre-recorded sounds, sample this sample that,so the eighties was about the look, but in between there was talent, today nobody want to take on the task of reinventing the music, remember, you could tell zep from zabb from deep purple or pink floyd. today? many artist just follow the trend and today's trend is simplicity and it all sounds the same!!!,lets change that ...ok all you musicians out there?

perrysite - 1/17/2003 7:42:49 PM
Eddieshead, There are still a few of us out there who are trying to keep metal alive. For example, Last year, I went with a group of friends to see a Scorpions/ Deep Purple/ Dio concert in Indianapolis. It was simply one of the best shows I'd ever seen. Some other recent greats: Rush, Kiss, Dokken, Dio. Now I hear that Scorpions are going out again with Whitesnake and Dokken. We're with ya man. CHEERZ!

It might be a little late to comment on this topic but I've been away from here for a while and "what the hell!!!" ...... I think that the best way for metal (in all it's forms) to grow and reach more people has to be through concerts - live performances and live appearances..... Some of the bigger ego's out there in the business need to suck up their pride and play the smaller clubs or join forces with another band and co-headline..... Bands need to play more than just one city in a state (or country)..... If a band wants to hold on to older fans and still attract younger newer blood to their sound then they need to stop going on stage at 10:30 on a Tuesday night..... Stop wasting promotional money on a video that no one will ever see..... I think that any band on tour needs to have the promoter or club owner get a local band on stage even if it's just a 30 minute set and even if there is a scheduled opening act..... Some people have mentioned the need for another British Invasion, those bands had a common similarity - they played live opening for anyone whenever and where-ever they could - I remember Fastway/Saxon/Iron Maiden on the road together and there are a hundred other examples..... Can't listen to KNAC? local radio give you no choice? then dig around in the compilations section of your nearest music outlet - Pickup a Kerrang compilation - there's a good chance something might strike a chord (pun intended) with you. Every year there is a compilation from WACKEN festival. Don't bitch and moan that it's dead or buried, your just not trying.... thanks for reading
