Townsend's 'Solo' Effort, A

For Immediate Release:

Devin Townsend Band Releases Ambitious Accelerated Evolution Through InsideOut Music America

Manic. Eccentric. Energetic. Genius. Cat Lover. All these words can be used to identify with but a fraction of Canadian musician Devin Townsend's brilliance. Throughout the years, he has concocted scores of mind-twisting albums, both solo and with his alter ego Strapping Young Lad. The 21st Century brings a new element to the musical hydra that is Devin, namely The Devin Townsend Band and the new release Accelerated Evolution.

The album, released through InsideOut Music America (consequently the first Devin Townsend 'solo' release made available in the US), continues Devin's masterful prowess as a songwriting technician, as well as a proficient producer. Accelerated Evolution is packed with sweeping choruses, intense rhythmic mechanics, and enough tempo shifts & progressive craftiness to make your head spin - all unified in clockwork harmony and retaining Devin's own cardinal rule - HEAVY!

Guitar legend Steve Vai (who handpicked a 19-year old Townsend to perform vocals on his acclaimed 1993 Sex & Religion release, testifies to the immensity of Accelerated Evolution: "Accelerated Evolution is another brilliant one. It's so deep and beautiful. I find myself falling into it and being mesmerized by the intensity and beauty."

As well as his own projects, Devin is making himself known as a world class Producer/Engineer by producing all of his own (solo & SYL) albums, as well as records by Soilwork (Natural Born Chaos), December (The Lament Configuration), Lamb Of God, Stuck Mojo, (Pigwalk) and many unsigned up-and-coming acts. He has also worked with renowned metal guitarist James Murphy on the 'Convergence' project.

Not only a compelling musician & producer, Devin is an extraordinary frontman in the live setting, frequently instigating physical mania in his fans. Having recently pulled double-duty in Europe with both The Devin Townsend Band and Strapping Young Lad ON THE SAME TOUR, Devin is looking to bring the Accelerated Evolution live show to American audiences this summer, following a romp with Meshuggah.

Hello Emily!

As the years go by, Townsend is looking more and more like the crypt keeper...

Hurls34 - 4/26/2003 11:46:04 PM
Townsend and Strapping Young Lad rules. First got introduced to him with the Vai Sex and Religion album, then of course, City came out, and I haven't been the same since. If you ever get a chance, check out the Punky Bruster album, it's the best concept album ever made (not bad considering he was just trying to combat bordem when he made it).

Emily_Strange - 4/26/2003 9:29:27 PM
Strapping Young Lad is awesome in concert. Saw them in around December or January & I'll probably catch them on the 6th. of May. Hey angelofdeath666 hey fahQ how are you ladies doing?
