David Lee Roth and his band of renegade rock warrior stormed the stage of Anaheim’s House of Blues last night and proved once and for all that he is still one of rock n’ roll’s best entertainers. The Diamond One strutted and grinned his way through a set of Van Halen classics sprinkled with solo chestnuts backed by White Lion bassist Greg Lomenzo, drummer Ray Luzier and the twin guitar attack of Brian Young and Toshi Hiketa.
The enraptured audience was treated to Dave TV era hits like “Just Like Paradise,” "Goin' Crazy," “Just a Gigolo” and “Yankee Rose” alongside stadium rockers such as “Unchained,” “Runnin’ With The Devil,” “Mean Streets,” “Panama,” and “Dance The Night Away.” He even busted out fan favorites such as “And The Cradle Will Rock” and “Somebody get Me A Doctor.” He also played the new single off his new album Diamond Dave, a cover of Steve Miller’s “Shoo Bop.”
The crowd was going apeshit over his every kick, thrust and leap and cheered him on through two encores that included “Ice Cream Man,” “Ain’t Talkin’ ‘Bout Love,” and “Jump.” As always, Dave guzzled Jack Daniels, he cracked wise between songs, and there was a midget by the side of the stage, presiding over the whole affair.
Shine on you crazy Diamond…shine on…
