UNLIKELY SAINTS
Unlikely Saints

Self-Released

Review By Hellhammer

As the old saying goes a band has their entire life to write the first record and this self-titled debut is a shining example of what that really means to full effect.

UNLIKELY SAINTS are home to the Central Coast of Oregon but have created an album of sounds more like their roots come from the Deep South or the Bayou!

The immediate impact of lead singer/rhythm guitarist Jay 'Big Pappa' Fleming's vocals cannot be overstated. His voice is the perfect morphing of Billy Gibbons, Warren Haynes and Bob Seger. He grabs the listener and takes hold until the last notes fade from closing track "Soul Fire"...Soul indeed!

Another worthy mention is the fact that close attention was paid to the track listing. The ebb and flow of this album is incredible especially in this day and age of iTunes and individual song purchases. It's almost as if this was created in another era. Remember the days when you listened to an album all the way through and played it all over again? Well here you have it!

The band gets in and out and less is more here with songs clocking in at the four minute range a total of 10 tracks. As they should, the lyrics tell individual stories that have encompassed someone's true life tales. Standout tracks are the one-two punch of "Angel Of The Interstate" and "Highway To Highway" to open the album as well as deep track "Try" and closing gem "Soul Fire".

Each band member is very capable and the experience with crafting of song is obvious. The production and recording is professional, putting the vocals out there right up front as they should be with God-given talent like this.

UNLIKELY SAINTS is what you want playing when you're drinking beer with the fellas. It's the music you can throw on at a party and expect people to ask 'who is this?'. It's the music you play when you need to get the old lady "in the mood". This is what you listen to at the start or finish of your day, or simply to adjust your attitude!

The music lying within this album will reach into your heart and mind, track-by-track you will be asking yourself: When is the last time a band created a debut album as wonderfully memorable as this?

UNLIKELY SAINTS is available now on iTunes.
