Clarke & Singer, With Stephan
REVIEW BY: Rubén Vergara
There are two bands here in Mexico, which counts with a high number of fans: Kiss and Guns and Roses, so the fact that a little a part of those bands were here was a huge experience to see.
The night started with two local bands that couldn't get the audience attention, due to the low musical quality.
At 12:30, Gilby Clarke, Eric Singer and Stephan hit the stage with the crowd screaming "Eric, Eric, Eric!!!" It was obvious that Eric Singer had the major number of fans in the venue. They started with some solo career songs from Gilby. The best moment of the beginning of the show came along with "Tijuana Jail."
The crowd was anxious to hear the songs of their ancient bands, so they started with "Nothing to Lose" from Kiss and the people went crazy. Eric Singer seems to be proud of belonging Kiss and I think he is a great drummer so he deserves that place. Then came the GnR time, so they played "It's So Easy" and after that "Knockin’ on Heaven's Door," the classic Bob Dylan song performed also by GnR. It was a show to remember and the Mexican people really had fun watching this great musicians play for almost two hours. In the middle of the show they played also two songs from LA Guns: "Rip and Tear" and "Electric Gypsy". Everybody was surprised when we listened to the beginning of "Come Together," the Beatles classic, which was a part of the set.
The encore consisted only of one song, but it was a song that could not be forget: "Rock and Roll All Nite." Wow!!! I loved it. Honestly, expected more Kiss and GnR songs, but it was a great show anyway.
Alpha_Male - 12/8/2003 8:35:13 AM Please stay in Mexico we have enough land scappers and drug pushers in America.
OzzmanzzO5150 - 12/7/2003 2:16:05 AM Show sounds as fun as a Blaze Bailey/Mick Brown show-hehehe......................
beyatch - 12/6/2003 2:45:36 PM No Gilby is not Izzy, but he rocks just as hard!
larockguy - 12/6/2003 2:17:12 PM Or otherwise know as The Sunset Band
hardrocker442 - 12/5/2003 11:41:01 AM putz666: you need to remember they played in Mexico. most of them only know is kiss and GnR. they catered to the masses. do you really think Gilby would stoop that low to sing kiss songs elsewhere??? you are right eric is a session player but Gilby as a shit load of rock songs( one of the few to to stay with his rock roots)dating back to the days of Candy, Kill For Thrills,GnR,and Slash's SnakePit and yes his solo albums. he got the GnR gig by playing every GnR song Asshole Rose threw at him (sorry i meant Axl)although i agree with you on the original GnR. Gilby is alot more talented. he has alot to bring to the table. check out Gilby's solo albums to Izzy's. and i own Izzy's to. Gilby has been known on his solo efferts to cover a song that influenced him. like the Beetles, Janis,The Stones.kiss never was a influence to Gilby. his biggest influence is the great Jimi Hendrix which he hasn't covered that i know of. i have seen a shit load of his live shows and have not known him to play GnR. but he may have when i wasn't there. i can live with him doing a GnR song. but kiss songs!!! man, that shit better stay in Mexico or i will have a talk with him...hehe i am sure it is just a eric thing that had better go away fast. just my two cents worth.
Orion_69 - 12/5/2003 10:53:29 AM I agree with Putz666. But anyways, Gilby sucks man. He was no Izzy by any means. I don't consider him a real part of GN'R, he was a replacment and most replacements can never cut it, as is true in this case.
sdmfny - 12/5/2003 8:53:43 AM Who gives a shit how many people were there? It doesn't mean the show can't be good. I think its nice to finally have a review that doesn't have Slayer's name attached to it. Fuck, there have been like 10 of those.
opmindcrime - 12/5/2003 8:35:29 AM What, there was like 32 people who saw this and it makes news?
Putz666 - 12/5/2003 8:27:24 AM Playing songs by their former bands which they neither wrote or recorded, this is pathetic. Let's face it these guys were just hired session players.
The original GNR and Kiss lineups were incredible and pioneers, now both those bands are just a bad joke.
sdmfny - 12/5/2003 6:27:53 AM I saw this lineup around 6 years ago. It was a kick ass show. They covered Dead Flowers from The Stones. LMAO, Tbird. I met Singer for about 5 seconds before a Revenge Tour show and he thought he was so high and mighty. Total prick. I was seeing this DJ, when I was in college. She had a metal show and she was doing some thing at some signing where Kiss was and after she spoke with Eric Singer, a member of his entourage told her to "wait" in this area so that they could go back to the hotel together. She was like "In his fuckin dreams. Loser." It was funny.
LoveBuzz - 12/4/2003 7:24:38 PM i was sniffin' around the knac site and i knew i can smell my name being called by some punk-bitch, and lo and behold.....its Rexrolan talking shit on a page where im haven't even ranted in yet, typical for a fucking douche-bag coward, and whats your beef with me, Rexrolan? did i take the last ding-dong? did your bitch stare at the buldge in my pants when i walked by some sunny day?
tbirdbass - 12/4/2003 2:48:57 PM gilby is a cool guy. eric is an ass.
rexrolan - 12/4/2003 2:42:23 PM LOVEBUZZ is a FAG..HE KNOWS IT AND SO DOES EVERYONE ELSE!!!!!!!!!
veronus - 12/4/2003 2:30:34 PM Kill For Thrills Man!
mbunton - 12/4/2003 1:51:20 PM Eric Singer is one of the most talented rock drummers in the music business today. To top it off he is an incredible singer. I like Gilby too, but I would prefer to see Eric playing with Bruce Kulick. They are an awesome combination as seen when they were in KISS together & on the ESP album. I hope Eric does another ESP album other solo effort in the near future!!!!
