Eric Sardinas Live at Roadhous

REVIEW BY: Justin C.
Now, I know "technically" Eric Sardinas isn't HEAVY METAL -- he's
usually described as a "blues guitarist," though "guitar god" would be far more
accurate -- but his music and performance are more powerful and heavier
than 90% of what passes for heavy metal these days!! And as far as HARD ROCK
goes? No one, and I mean NO ONE rocks harder. Sardinas' take on rock may
be all about the roots (the blues), but there is nothing dated or retro about it. Some things are timeless, and Eric's music qualifies.
And his concerts? Well, they are a sight to behold!! Many of his on-the-road shows are between 3 and 4 hours long, and all will leave you speechless!! We {Bob, Crystal, and I} traveled 225 miles to Wichita, Kansas to catch Eric & Co.'s travelling show at The Roadhouse Blues!! Not a short jaunt by any stretch of the imagination, but well worth the long haul!!
Eric's outfit is a straight-ahead three-piece (no DJ scratchin', not needed). He is supported by bassist Paul Loranger and drummer Mike Dupke -- formerly of party-rock heavyweights Hair Of The Dog, and more recently did the drumming on the self-titled debut album from black metallers Black Holiday:

About the show: The band came on at 9:30 blazing through set regulars "Imperial Strut," "You Don't Love Me," "I'm Worried," "The Girl I've Been Loving," "Get Along Rider," "Flames Of Love," "Same Ol' Way," "I Can't Be Satisfied," "Come On In My Kitchen," "Down In The Bottom" {complete w/ Dupke's Bonham-esque drum solo (god, I miss those!), and an appearance from Mr. Bud Weiser... If you haven't seen Eric Sardinas' brand of beer-bottle slide, you are letting one of the best and raunchiest things in rock
pass you by!!}, and the finale of "Treat Me Right!!"
There were obviously a few instrumental jams that I don't know the titles of in there, too, but they were KILLER nonetheless!!! The band was as tight as ever (and that is saying something) and louder than ever!!! My ears are still ringing!! It just doesn't get any better than this. If you have a chance to catch Eric live, TAKE IT.
The current tour is underway, and info about it can be found at Eric

FVinson42 - 11/23/2004 5:50:47 PM A lotta Hype & Image...and a mediocrity of talent...
This guys sucked since he did open mic nights at OC Coffee houses...
iamtheone - 3/4/2004 12:51:41 PM "ibanez"--hell, all these years and i thought it was always "ibeenhad"!!!!!
Atrain670 - 3/2/2004 12:18:30 PM Yeah, it's like christmas morning every time you pick one up! Or, more or less, it's like bringing a new baby home from the hospital! LOL
jakemusic - 3/2/2004 12:00:12 AM LOL, yes exactly! That's why I have so many Ibanez guitars. It makes me sound just like Satch, Vai or Skolnick... ........ Honestly, though .... many years ago when I bought my ESP, I thought I would play just like Kirk Hammett, lol. Pathetic, isn't it? What about bringing out that metronome and start practicing again? But it's much more fun buying a new axe of course...
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 4:37:20 PM Because we all know that if you buy an artist's signature guitar, you can automatically play like them, right? Isn't that how it works?!?
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 4:36:19 PM Fuck! Someone on ebay has the Sardinas signature Electric resonator, with a specially designed Duncan pickup, for 900 clams! Did someone say tax refund?
jakemusic - 3/1/2004 2:50:39 PM Yeah, I know that feeling, lol. Sometimes you just have to have that guitar!!! ..... My problem is that I never get rid of my old stuff.
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 2:41:14 PM I was a bad boy last week, and bought a new Fender American Strat, because it had that "thing" that some guitars have, where you pick it up at the guitar store, play it, and it clicks immediately. Blues for days on this puppy. Same color scheme as Yngwie's, just with a rosewood fingerboard instead of maple. They also had 1400 dollar Mesa half stack that was incredible, but I didn't have that kind of cash to throw around...
jakemusic - 3/1/2004 2:30:39 PM Man, I'm working way too much! But I try to sneak in every now and then. ........... The Swedish G3 tourdates was released yeasterday (I think) so I'll probalby see that concert at the 19:th of June. Can't wait!!! Yngwie is replaced by Robert Fripp, though. ........ I'm looking forward to seeing the DVD too, but I can't afford it right now. In the last two weeks I've bought: #1 A new guitar preamp. It's a two channel German built Engl-530 all tube preamp. This baby even kicks Mesa Boogie's ass!!! .... #2 A new DiMarzio Tone Zone pickup for brige position in the only one of my guitars that didn't have one... #3 Today I bought a fucking Ibanez 540pII. I've been looking around for a pII with 24 frets and two humbuckers for years and finally I found one. ..... but I'll get my hands on that DVD some day, lol.
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 2:16:36 PM Jake!! What is up, my brother!! I was thinking of you the other day, as I watched my new G3 DVD. Yngwie plays in his usual amazing style, but there is a mega-disaster where he actually attempts to sing Voodoo Chile. It sounds like Kronos from Venom, as he basically screams out the verse to hurriedly get to the solos. Funny as fuck, bro! You gotta see it! Dude, he really does look like Ann Wilson from Heart now.
jakemusic - 3/1/2004 2:00:05 PM Atraiiiiinnnnn!!!!! Great to see your rants man. :) I've never heard about Sardinas before. But from the pics I can say that I think he appeared on some eastern european TV show (which featured a complete Steve Vai concert) that I downloaded from the net. I must say he was pretty cool.
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 1:55:07 PM Thought I'd share this with the blues gang in here: I just stumbled on a jewel on CDBaby.com and immediately ordered it. The Chris Aaron Band is the group, and it has the singer from the 1st Kenny Wayne Shepherd disc. Great song samples: www.cdbaby.com/cab if you want to hear what I just heard. LOL You'll probably buy it as well!
ALEXCRUZER - 3/1/2004 11:48:33 AM Thanx, I will check him out!
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 11:42:54 AM Out of the three Bonamassa releases, the lastest, "Blues Deluxe" is my favorite. The 2nd disc, "So It's Like That" is more rock and pop orientated, and the one I like the least. HOWEVER, it comes with an INSANE live DVD of him doing first CD, "A New Day Yesterday", material. It is absolutely a must buy! Enjoy!
Atrain670 - 3/1/2004 11:40:03 AM Apparently, he had marriage and drug problems of some sort. In last month's Guitar One, he says he has a bunch of music ready to go and something should be out by the end of 2004/beginning 2005...
