OPETH
In Cauda Venenum

Nuclear Blast/Moderbolaget

Swedish dark masters OPETH Released their newest, 13th full-length album after waiting since 2016 for their last album Sorceress.

This album, recorded last year at Stockholm's Park Studios, was released in two separate high quality versions, both English AND Swedish languages, something they have never done before.

Honestly, as a so-so fan of OPETH in general, I didn’t know what to expect going into listening to this album, but man once I did... I was in deep. The sound, the depth, the way each song came together was chillingly perfected. The album opened with this weird unexplainable techno-RAMMSTEINish sound followed by a child’s voice (I'm guessing speaking Swedish) and then goes right into the songs, which also lined up perfectly the way each song somewhat transitioned into the next one. The whole album in general I will say is pretty darn good. Although I’m not extremely crazy about it (mostly because I like the more ‘growling’ version of OPETH) it’s still oddly interesting to listen to. But like they say…sometimes change is good, right?! It is definitely something different from their previous styled music which is what they wanted this album to be.

I absolutely love the style and vibe of this album though; the music and sound in general is insanely eerie and beautiful at the same time. Mikael Akerfeldt’s vocals are definitely clean and dramatic, but I almost feel it’s too dramatic and soft for the music. (Maybe that’s just me though) But as I mentioned before, I do know that this is what they were intentionally going for, so I give it an A+!
