Statement from Atlantic Records
December 9, 2004
We are shocked and saddened by last night’s horrible and senseless shootings. This is a tragic day for the music community, and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims, their families, and the surviving members of Damageplan and their crew. Dimebag Darrell was an exceptional musician and an extraordinary person. Along with his brother and bandmate, Vinnie Paul, he was a member of the Elektra/Atlantic family for the past 14 years, and he will be deeply missed. The bravery displayed by Damageplan, their crew, their fans, and the local police will never be forgotten.

The internal message from Atlantic sates the following first:
"As we are sure you all have heard by now, our band Damageplan suffered a horrible tragedy last night at their show in Columbus. Guitarist Dimebag Darrell was shot and killed, as was their head of security, Mayhem (Jeff Thompson), and two fans. Chris Paluska from the band's management company is in critical but stable condition, and the band's drum tech, Cat (John Brooks), is expected to be released from the hospital tomorrow.
"We hope that each of you will take a moment to reflect on the band and their music, and the tremendous loss which this is to the music community."

jerryskid1 - 12/10/2004 5:52:47 PM "Gale had served with the 2nd Marine Division at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina until November 2003, when he was discharged after less than half of the typical four-year stint, Marine spokeswoman Gunnery Sgt. Kristine Scarber said. She declined to explain the discharge, citing privacy rules." <---The public deserves to know why this guy was discharged from the military. A murderer has no rights to privacy.
whiskeyboy - 12/10/2004 3:34:31 PM I like culture club why can't someone shoot Boy George?
dewyfinn - 12/10/2004 2:45:27 PM i wore my beat up, hole filled, over a decade old vulgar display of power long sleve to work today and proudly and loudly played all of pantera's cd's. i still don't feel a whole lot better. this saturday night at ten, no matter where you are, or what you are doing tune in to mtv2 and their headbanger's ball tribute to our lost brother. i for one hope that this special episode gets the highest ratings in the history of mtv2, so that perhaps this senseless tragedy can have the positive effect of letting the corporate dolts at mtv realize that despite their best efforts metal is alive, and despite what people say about our "comunity" or family, we come together when it is needed, and when it counts. so saturday night at ten, grab a bottle, grab a six pack, grab a joint and lets all send dime out in the style he so richly fucking deserves.
Natas1 - 12/10/2004 1:29:23 PM This is truly a sad event, I was speechless for a while after I heard. This sick bastard supposedly rambled something about Pantera before the shooting started. Did anyone else hear that? I hope Phil can bring his Heroin-infected ass to let by-gones be just that and show some sympathy. Who knows with all his shit talking though. A true heavyweight has been lost. Condolences to Vinnie and the rest of the family.....

mariodeth - 12/10/2004 7:50:25 AM Now at least we won't have to remember fucking John Lennon. DIME IS A FUCKING LEGEND... WE'LL MISS YOU A LOT DIME!!!
rp5150 - 12/10/2004 5:15:58 AM What can I say, this is totally fucked. In some ways I wish that scumbag had survived another 24 hours so the family, friends and fans of Dimebag could line up to beat the fuck out of him. This LOSER got off too easy by being shot at the scene. My thoughts are with Vinnie and his family.
PauloClark - 12/10/2004 4:13:45 AM I'm very sad about his death. I'm great fan of Pantera and Dimebag Darrell. He was here in Brazil (my country) in 1995 for some shows and I met him in an afternoon of autographs. He was very happy, always laughing. He autographed my left arm, a rock magazine of mine and I could talk with him. He was very cool, talked with all fans. It was not a behaviour of a rock star, but as an old friend in a big party.
I still being sad about his death beacause I was a great fan of him and I had the unforgettable experience to meet, talk and know a little about him. He's the great guy as the other bands say. I'll miss him too much, it's a sad day for rock, twenty four years ago John Lennon in NY was killed too, these things realy knocked me down.
We have the memory of a great man, and the most influent metal musician since the early 90's.
REST IN PEACE DARRELL, I'LL GRIND MY AXE FOR YOU A LONG TIME!!!
metal_god_69 - 12/10/2004 12:30:42 AM Dimebag is my hero. I've looked up to him since the day I picked up my guitar. December 8, 2004 will forever be one of the saddest days in metal history.
RIP Dimebag - Have a beer up there with all friends for me - CFH
greennug63 - 12/9/2004 10:33:54 PM Hey I like your ideal GeneralRoachkof. If we take a stand against idiots like this guy, maybe we could let them know we won't have it anymore. This should at least slown the stupid shit. If you see this happening, or something like it.... step up. You might even get a Letter of Accomodation from Pres. Bush himself, and respect from every other American that is tired of this shit.
