Opeth vocalist, Mikael Åkerfeldt announced in an MTV interview that his band has signed on with Roadrunner Records, and is currently recording new songs for their forthcoming album. Åkerfeldt says the follow up to the 2003 accoustic "Damnation" will be a heavy-sounding record.
The band is having an album cover contest for fans. If you think you can design the ultimate Opeth cover art, check out the details at www.opeth.com.
Just two weeks ago, the band announced that Keyboardist, Per Wiberg will be permenantly joining the band.
You can catch Opeth live on the Sounds of the Underground tour where they intend to play some of their new songs. Some of the new songs titles include: "Ghost of Tradition," "The Baying of the Hounds" and "Isolation Years."

jenX - 5/27/2005 9:23:34 AM Opeth is the GREATEST band ever!! Brilliant is an understatement! Anyone who has not heard their music has literally not heard great music! Great move to Roadrunner! Let the message be heard by all!
Death_Chronicle - 5/26/2005 6:53:55 AM This is a free ride for Roadrunner. Look how far Opeth got on the little KOCH label.
poopybutt - 5/25/2005 11:01:41 PM Shit! I was actually happy when Type O Negative left Roadrunner...I hope they don't fuck Opeth
DarthBathory - 5/25/2005 11:32:52 AM Looks like Roadrunner has finally figured out what the rest of us have known for years. The real talent and innovation lay in the underground. So far they have signed Nightwish, Cradle of Filth, and Opeth. I wonder who is next.
VivaMetal2005 - 5/24/2005 8:42:32 AM As a lifelong metal fan (from early 80s) I have never been into the death-growl-cookie-monster vocals HOWEVER, Opeth changed that. This is truly metals most brilliant band. Check 'em out.
Death_Chronicle - 5/23/2005 7:17:31 AM sss69-fuck Ozzfest-check Opeth out on the Sounds Of The Underground tour this summer. Upwards of 15 bands and tickets are only around $30.
Death_Chronicle - 5/23/2005 7:15:12 AM FUCK. I knew it. I hate Roadrunner. Opeth was like the Heissman-winning first round draft favorite and you know every metal label under the sun wanted their hooks in them. I can't believe fucking Roadrunner reeled them in. Now that they have a good band on their roster they're gonna have take a shot at being something other than a sub-standard, irrelevant band-screwing label. Hope they don't buckle under the pressure.
TungusGrump - 5/22/2005 2:04:45 PM Opeth: second only to Dream theatre in talent. This band simply kicks ass! I cant wait.
ThirdArm - 5/21/2005 4:49:05 PM Is anyone else concerned these guys are signing with Roadrunner. Will they now be touring with Coldplay? This is probably one of my top 3 favorite bands and the fact is that roadrunner's RECENT record of bands and the sound they tend to market makes this a little disconcerting.
sss69 - 5/21/2005 11:36:17 AM Dido with "tater64" post, these guys are very impressive & progressive. Death to Melodic and back to Death Metal vocals, and Mikael Åkerfeldt does them both very well. Anyone that is a fan of Scandanavian Melodic Death Metal will not be disappointed. These guys even went against the grain and put out a total accoustic CD (with a dark edge of course) called DAMNATION. Hopefully the Ozzfest board of directors (a.k.a. Sharon) won't oversee these guys in 2006 and give them the exposer they deserve here in the States.
tater64 - 5/20/2005 11:56:13 PM These guys are probably the most incredible band I've ever heard...if you haven't heard of them, either check them out now, or go fuck yourselves for being so stupid.
powergroove - 5/20/2005 9:55:46 PM opeth are one of the great metal bands that can finally break the shitty metalcore scene.
LoveBuzz - 5/20/2005 8:49:05 PM "Opeth vocalist, Mikael Åkerfeldt announced in an MTV interview that his band has signed on with Roadrunner Records" <~~~~~~ why was MTV even interviewing these guys? was Usher unavailabe that day?
