BLISSKRIEG
Remedy

Independent

The debut album of Indiana-based modern rockers BLISSKRIEG begins a new musical chapter for all of its members. BLISSKRIEG’s musical pedigree is a culmination of several successful rock bands. Guitarist Todd Whitener, drummer Matt Taul and bassist Jesse Vest were apart of the hugely successful ’90s bands DAYS OF THE NEW and TANTRIC, while vocalist Donald Carpenter performed in SUBMERSED and EYE EMPIRE. On its self-released debut full-length album Remedy, the band has created 10 highly diverse tracks.

Album opener and first single/video “Inside Me” begins with soaring and uplifting a cappella vocal harmonies, followed by pulsating guitar melodies and a solid hard-driving rhythm section. It’s probably the band’s most definitive track on the entire record and sets the tone for what’s next. “Parasitic” follows it with an engaging and melodic acoustic guitar intro and soaring vocals, which contains a massive radio-friendly/commercial edge, while the groovy, ALTER BRIDGE-esque “Take It Back” has the same modern rock appeal.

Carpenter’s vocals throughout the record has a warm vibrant tone to them, sometimes chiming in with a soulful, bluesy wail. Each track encourages massive sing-alongs on the catchy choruses, mostly due to the infectious, multi-layered vocal harmonies on tracks such as “Inside Me”, “Wherever You Go” and the title track. The dreamy “She Cries” and the bluesy “Destination Unknown” are highly infectious back-to-back ballads, while tracks “Rise and Fall”, “New Age” and “Waiting” contain groove-based rhythms with funky basslines, mesmerizing guitar melodies and engaging vocal harmonies.

Fans of BLISSKRIEG’s members’ previous bands or modern/active rock in general will be highly pleased with Remedy, as it’s a surprisingly diverse album. After the disaster that was 2020, Remedy is a bright shining spot in 2021.
