Sharon Osbourne: "Bruce Dickinson is a Prick." By Newsferatu, Writer Sunday, August 21, 2005 @ 4:37 AM
During Iron Maiden's set there were problems clearly visible to the fans. According to a witness, "at least 3 dozen eggs" were thrown at the band during their first one or two songs. Bruce Dickinson was very vocal and used several expletives directed at the person(s) in the audience who were able to "sneak" the eggs into the event. He made a comment that the egg throwing and inconsideration was done by an Ozzy Osbourne fan and "not A Black Sabbath fan." Dickinson said the band would continue playing after drummer Nikko McBrain cleaned up his drum kit.
After the egging there were three power outages, each lasting 3-5 minutes. One song, where the power was cut half-way through, was finished in its entirety. The other two songs were not.
Iron Maiden played approximately one hour with one encore. According to one witness Dickinson continued making, what the witness calls "rather vicious comments that seemed to be directed at the Osbourne camp and crew" regarding the power outages.
Typically, during the break down/set up of the stage between acts, a recorded chant of "Ozzy, Ozzy, Ozzy..." would be played. According to a witness, just when Iron Maiden was finishing their last song, before the last note was struck or the band was able to take their bow and thank the audience, the recorded voice came on drowning out Dickinson's voice and whatever sounds were coming from the instruments. As the voice said "Ozzy, Ozzy...," Dickinson thanked Southern California, but made another comment directed at the crew.
After the set was over, Sharon Osbourne addressed the fans from center stage calling Bruce Dickinson a "prick" and saying he had been nothing but disrespectful since the tour began.
No word yet if this public conflict will impact remaining Ozzfest dates.
A KNAC.COM reporter who spoke with Dickinson during Iron Maiden's induction to the Hollywood Rock Walk on Friday said Dickison had nothing but positive words for Ozzy Osbourne and for Ozzfest.
