Swedish Olympic Curlers Let the Hammerfall in Video By Newsferatu, Writer Sunday, January 22, 2006 @ 9:03 AM
Leave it to a curling team to rock out leading up to next month's Winter Games.
Sweden's women's curling entry for the Olympics in Turin has traded its brushes for electric guitars, earning top billing in a new rock video from Swedish heavy-metal act Hammerfall. The defending world champions, skipped by Anette Norberg, are considered a favourite to win Olympic gold.
Sweden opens Olympic action Feb. 13 against Calgary's Shannon Kleibrink.
In the video, Norberg and teammates Eva Lund, Catharine Lindahl and Anna Bergstrom arrive for a game only to be confronted by their opponents: a wild-haired rock band with questionable curling skills. The two sides battle to the finish, but not before the curlers morph into leather-and chain-clad rockers.
"For us to succeed, our serious training has to give space to more relaxing elements," said Norberg. "This has created loads of positive energy and is something that beats everything in team-building that we have ever experienced."
