As previously reported, Judas Priest are preparing to record a new album. As further evidence of the band's commitment to recording, the following has been posted at www.judaspriest.com by the band's management co-ordinator, Jayne Andrews:
"All of the band took a well deserved break over the Christmas and New Year holidays. Having been touring for nearly two years, they were badly in need of recharging their batteries! Now they are raring to go and are starting work on their new studio album. For this reason, they have decided not to do any touring this year but to work straight through on the new album! Once we are further down the line with it I'll give you some updates!
"We have just heard from Burrn! magazine in Japan that JUDAS PRIEST have swept the polls!
The Best Group of the year: JUDAS PRIEST
The Best Album of the year: JUDAS PRIEST 'Angel Of Retribution'
The Best Live Performance in Japan: JUDAS PRIEST
The Best Album Cover: JUDAS PRIEST 'Angel Of Retribution'
The Best Vocalist of the year: Rob Halford/JUDAS PRIEST
"Needless to say we are all very happy about these results - they are fantastic! So a big thank you to Judas Priest's Japanese fans!!"
scrapmetal - 2/17/2006 7:18:48 PM Fairweather fan, dude?I believe I saw every Priest tour from Screaming for Vengeance thru Ripper due to the fact that one of my neighbors worked for the band for 5 years in the seventies.Ripper is a great vocalist but he cant replace the living legend-no more than the new Journey singer,John Bush,Sammy Hagar, etc.Ripper needs to hook up with a shit hot band like ALice in Chains
(like Chris Cornell did) or create a supergroup.Great talent but wrong situation-the fans are too old to accept any replacement totally.
rmendez - 2/16/2006 8:55:57 AM Ripper Owens was doing a fantastic job as tha fronman for JP. Jugulator and especially Demolition are albums that should set the standard for upcoming metal bands.
Angel of Retribution is just a mediocre album. Not much substance other than a few tunes.
JP should have stayed on the metal side and continued what they started with Jugulator and Demolition.
Still, Long Live The Priest!
Mortiis1313 - 2/15/2006 9:30:04 AM Best reunion ever. Now we need to see Elohim (God) and Lucifer reunite and re-create our souls.
djoseph - 2/15/2006 9:06:40 AM Scrapmeatl: You have a point but Ripper was nominated because of his voice and the Category was Best Metal Performance. As for Halford having more stage presence, I have seen them both in concert and they both had the same stage presence (halford pre 2000). As for current time, Halford has no stage presence. He just fucking stands there with his head down or he slowly walks across the stage. Some fucking excitement. He reminded my of YODA from Star Wars. His rendition of Diamonds just absolutley blows. Did you see any of the showswith Ripper or are you just a fair weather fan?
skullbasher - 2/14/2006 12:42:05 PM ...I saw these guys in a fucking club (Button South RIP) it was sick!! I mean Judas Fucking Preist Live in your face just feet away..up close and personal. The club ownwr had to bring in a industrial generator to accomadate the sound...like I said It was sick!! It was definatly a show I'll NEVER forget!!
scrapmetal - 2/14/2006 8:54:49 AM Ripper was great but this is a situation where the original vocalist still has the goods.WHy does everyone
keep dragging them over the coals for Loch Ness, one marginal song on a great comebeack album?Christ,Judas is Rising more than makes uo for it,in my opinion. In the day & age of lame reunions done solely for the cash, most of the time without a new recording to support (ie The Eagles,Judas Priest,ANthrax,Van hagar, etc),Priest should be applauded for doing it right & giving the fans their money's worth.
judasbishop - 2/13/2006 11:37:33 PM i think their last great was Demolition and the live london cd that followed. judas iis rising made a statement of what should be and now they have a year to do it. I actualy wish ripper was still doing it though the hugeness and nostalgia would be missing
nkmnrcn - 2/13/2006 6:56:15 PM Halford still sounds incredible...can't wait to hear some new Priest!!
rahan61 - 2/13/2006 4:53:37 PM avenger in 91 they were already 45 years old. i am a big priest fan , and i dont think " angel " was a great album. painkiller was their last great album. tha best song in " angel " is judas is rising. the lochness song sucks, i cannot evenplay it in my car. i cant see myself at the red light singing " lochness lochness la lalalala "
scrapmetal - 2/13/2006 3:54:49 PM Yeah, djoseph the Grammies have alwasy been an accurate barometer of heavy metal, ever since Jethro Tull beat Metallica.Just like Les Paul's album was better than Stevie Vai & Joe Perry this year.
Avengerkillerof - 2/13/2006 2:54:56 PM bosox...how old were the guys in Priest when they released Painkiller? I think you'll find they were over 35 years old. Let's not forget Jugulator. Angel of Retribution, is still a stronger album than 95% of any "metal" releases from guys half their age during 2005. Iron Maiden's Brave New World is another example and those guys still deliver an amazing live show, Bruce's vocals are still top notch. If it's good it's good, does it need a date stamp on it? I watched the DVD, yes Rob Halford is struggling a little with his voice and his movement on stage, but he has for years for though, he's still phenomenal in the studio (admittedly he has more control of conditions in there though). Even Unleashed in the East was very much "touched up" before it was released as was the usual practice with a "live" album. Anyone notice Ian Hill on that DVD, the guy hasn't slowed down at all?
djoseph - 2/13/2006 2:22:46 PM By the way, if this was such a great album, where is the Grammy nomination, oh thats right, Priest never had one when Halford was with them...
djoseph - 2/13/2006 2:20:25 PM O Gee, I can't wait. Maybe they will do a sequal to the Eulogy: "And so now it comes to pass, by the even tide en masse, see them gather, yet alas, they remain still as stained class"'& Lochness, confess...give me a break, how gay can this be? Mediocre album if that. Hopefully they wear normal clothes on tour as well. Nothing like tight leather pants on old people...
dancypants - 2/12/2006 12:21:22 PM Now, back to my world, where the sky is candy apply grey. I've been listening to the NIN song "Bite the hand that feeds" and I'm picturing a video in my mind a very hairy, slightly paunched, middle aged man with big beard and long, well not really long, more like the bushy hair that you see some metal geeks grow when they try to grow it long, but just doesn't happen, dressed as the baby new year, in top hat, bow tie, with cane and in a diaper dancing to the song, along with a very angular faced teenager dressed in a police mans uniform nudging him to dance with a nightstick. This is what goes on in my head.
dancypants - 2/12/2006 12:16:00 PM Well, on a serious note, they may be simply on a similar wavelength as metal, not so much all metal, but mainly glam metal is so homosexual by nature that it begs comment. And being that gay sex is as hilarious as it gets, it can only be funny. Both funny queer and funny ha-ha. I'm really not sure how anyone can take it seriously (irregardless of this post).
