Page Beats Back The Competitio

Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven has been voted the best guitar solo of all time.

The Jimmy Page effort topped a survey of 2,000 readers of Total Guitar magazine besting the likes of Van Halen, Guns N' Roses and Jimi Hendrix to be named the best air guitar moment.

Total Guitar editor Stephen Lawson said: "Absolutely everyone loves to play air guitar when they hear the moment in a song where the guitarist rocks out.

"I'm not surprised that Stairway to Heaven is number one - not only is Jimmy Page's solo incredibly ballsy and a little bit flash, but it is also brilliantly structured.

"The resurgence of great, guitar-driven music safeguards the air guitar for generations to come."

The Top 10 Guitar Solos are:

    1. Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
    2. Van Halen - Eruption
    3. Guns N' Roses - Paradise City
    4. The Eagles - Hotel California
    5. Metallica - Enter Sandman
    6. Cream - Crossroads
    7. Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return)
    8. Ozzy Osbourne - Crazy Train
    9. Free - All Right Now
    10. Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

"MR. Scary" - George Lynch - he is GOD and no one can touch his unique playing! He is the most underrated player out there and only one of a few still going from the 80's! www.georgelynch.com

No shit, no Angus? No Iomi? No Tipton or Downing? Why is Zepplin always #1 in thses polls? And The Unforgiven has a better solo than Enter Sandman.

I told all of you before, but scrapmetal, and Canuckmetalhead I guess have to be reminded, this is a hippie generation list. It is not an all time list as these two suggested because if it were it would include solos going back at least the hundreds of years of music that we are aware of meaning, back to about the middle ages. Most rock fans don't know enough about traditional music of any kind to be able to compile an alltime list anymore than most metal fans. Face it, WFERG it's not my favorite who sucks as you put it, in fact I have several favorites, it's the polled morons who answered this classic rock poll.

Jimmy Page, "I Fucked 14-Year Old Lori And Did Not Go To Prison". Aesome solo, especially cause Page was so heroined-out at the time that he could not get an erection! Nonetheless, he banged the jailbait and wrote another killer solo!
