Press release:

Queensr˙che brought the group’s acclaimed Operation: Mindcrime albums to the stage last year performing the original and its 2006 sequel in their entirety during the group’s successful North American tour. The marathon shows included a full theatrical production complete with surround sound, video imagery and actors portraying the concept albums’ characters onstage with the band. Rhino captures Queensr˙che’s epic performance in front of the quintet’s hometown crowd at the Moore Theater in Seattle with Mindcrime At The Moore. The double CD ($24.98) and double DVD ($29.99) versions will both be available June 26 at all physical retail outlets and www.rhino.com. The album will also be available at all digital retail outlets for a suggested retail price of $14.99. An iTunes exclusive version featuring a video of “The Chase” with Ronnie James Dio will be available for $15.99.

The CD includes singer and chief songwriter Geoff Tate along with guitarists Michael Wilton and Mike Stone, bassist Eddie Jackson and drummer Scott Rockenfield performing all 32 Mindcrime tracks plus a two-song encore featuring their signature hits—“Jet City Woman” and “Walk In The Shadows.” The DVD features the same performance expanded with bonus material including a tour documentary, a featurette on the band’s “Rock & Ride Across America” charity motorcycle ride for the VH1 Save The Music Foundation, and a live performance of “The Chase” from the Gibson Amphitheatre in Los Angeles, featuring Ronnie James Dio’s only public appearance as Dr. X.

“This concert is the realization of an idea that began nearly two decades ago,” says Tate. “The story and music of Operation: Mindcrime is very dear to the band. We are thrilled with this performance and proud to share it with our audience.”

Queensr˙che released Operation: Mindcrime in 1988. Praised by critics and certified platinum, the album was an acclaimed success remaining on Billboard’s Top 200 for more than a year. In 2006 the band released a long-awaited sequel to their magnum opus to critical and commercial success. The album debuted at #14 on the Top 200, their highest debut in over a decade.

The concept albums follow an intriguing and complex plot that revolves around Dr. X, a political puppet master who brainwashes Nikki—the story’s main character—to assassinate corrupt public figures. The story also includes Nikki’s lover, Sister Mary. A former teenage prostitute who becomes a nun, Sister Mary is murdered mysteriously, leaving the cliffhanger “Who Killed Sister Mary?” Set 20 years after the original, Operation: Mindcrime II explores Nikki’s fate after being released from prison and reveals the identity of Mary’s killer. The album centers on revenge and what it does to people, their emotions and the choices they make. Mindcrime At The Moore

speaking of Coachella, couple years back Fantomas (Lombardo folks) was on at the same time as Coldplay and Patton was doing his thing "Shouldn't you guys be over at the other stage sucking off Gwenyth Paltrow!"

ocillotist - 4/12/2007 1:53:21 PM
yes the European Union Festivals completely rule over the North American Union ones, Bonnaroo has some great bands and coachella has it moments, isn't there a big one in Wisconsin that used to go down?

MR_Totem - 4/11/2007 4:34:48 PM
Dont forget FullForce or Tuska both great Euro Festivals.

Probably the best multi band bill in the history of this country next to the US FESTIVAL.But something Europeans used to get annually at Donnington and Germans now enjoy at the____________ Fest (someone help me out here).

For me the term "haters" is a bit extreme; "dislike" is more suiting. I tend to kinda dislike this band, but I'll reserve my "hate" for Spears and Justin Timberlake type-fucks with their broadroom created images and their phoney processed music that they had written for them.

TangoCharlie - 4/10/2007 2:45:47 AM
Isnt it about time we had a FULL OM DVD?!!! Preferably a vintage performance of OM1. Tc

Excellant summary, oatmeal. Most bands do 3 great albums and the touring & money just eats away at the hungry edge that got them to the top to begin with.

oatmeal....well said.

That's the problem with being so ambitious at the beginning of your career, all your best stuff comes out in the first five or six albums. After a while, other bands have to raise the bar to keep up, and then you're just like everyone else. Happened to Maiden, happened to Metallica, and it's certainly happened to Queensryche. The only albums in the bunch that I have a problem with are Q2K and Hear in the Now Frontier, but I find that if I take selected tracks from each and make a cd, I've got 1 pretty decent album. Promised Land was sheer genius, and Tribe was exactly what I needed at the time. Mindcrime II, while it doesn't live up to the original, let's face it, nothing will, except maybe Rage for Order. But nonetheless, Mindcrime II has some of the best, most interesting songwriting on it that's come from Queensryche in a long time, and Stone is doing a great job trying to fill the very big shoes of Chris DeGarmo. I have seen this band 15 times, and each time they get better and better live. They are consistent and they always play what the fans like to hear. And that's not selling out in my book. Your fans pay the bills, so Queensryche have been wise to listen to their hardcore fanbase. Too easily we throw around terms like selling out and don't know what it's like to have a band that has the longevity that Queensryche has. When most of the bands of their time have split up and are doing reunions and greatest hits tours, you have to remember that Queensryche has never split up, other than the loss of DeGarmo and Kelly Gray. They tour constantly and have been on some of the best tours of the last ten years. Iron Maiden/Queensryche/Halford. Queensryche/Dream Theater/ Fates Warning. Judas Priest/ Queensryche. The Operation: Mindcrime II tour, which despite what some people call an opera with third rate actors, was actually praised by critics nationwide. The haters just need to relax on this band, because they are doing it, and living it, and still after all these years, loving it.
