Lars Ulrich: New Metallica Album Probably Early 2008

In an interview at the Rock Werchter Festival in Belgium over the weekend, Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich said the band had finished recording backing tracks for it's ninth studio album in early May and will resume studio work in August.
Ulrich estimated the record will be completed in October or November, but said he didn’t think the group’s first new album since 2003 would be released until early next year.
Though hesitant to assign a sound to the still-untitled album, Ulrich did say, “It doesn’t sound anything like St. Anger to me, it’s probably a little more dynamic and a little more varied. The one thing I can tell you is that [the songs are] quite long.”

scrapmetal - 7/11/2007 8:09:04 AM Hmm Diablos I agree with a lot of what youre saying-especially the long overlooked Binge & Purge (the Mexico City show is among their best recorded concerts),But dismissing their recent tours is just plain wrong-I think its their lonly strongpoint left.The St ANger show I atended in Boston with Godsmack was pure power-I was impressed at how tight they sound without even looking at each other & standing on different parts of the stage (at times facing 3 different parts of the arena).

Diabolos - 7/10/2007 8:39:32 AM scrapmetal - I wasn't saying jason would join Megadeth, I was saying i "wish" he would just to burn Lars. To behonest i have nothing wrong with the Black album, There were some pretty descent classics on there. It was Justice that actually got me into Metallica and the Black album solidified me as a fan. After that i hit the back catalogue and couldn't believe what i was missing. Needless to say once the relases following the Black album poped up i started listening to them less and less. I found myself looking for bootlegs of older shows, bought the Binge... box set which is great!. But they just aren't the band they once were. They have no agresion or feeling, they just stick to a metal formula and do it and pump out another album because they need some dough. Mustains album, while not his best, but pretty daam good (United Abomination) at least tackles serious current issues that he is passionate about, and you can tell in his voice when he sings or goes on a rant the guy is just plain pissed and some people may not agree with his rants etc... but you have to admit it does give the music an edge and full fledged balievable agression. This is where Metallica falls short BIG TIME! To see mustain spewing his lyrics on stage the guy just looks like he's genuinely pissed and feels and cares about his projects. Metallica walks around, and the bassist walks around like a monkey. No heart! all they see are dollar signs when they look into the audience. Did you notice the songs they chose to sing during Live Earth? Not a single song after the Black album. Tells you something right there! They know like everyone else on this site knows, 95% of songs after teh black album are all b-side filler tracks. Metallica should take a lesson from AC/DC - not all their albums are good but they live by the modow if it ain't broke, don't fix it. You leave an AC/DC concert, even now amazed at the EXTREME energy you just experienced from the music. When youleave a metallica show you are wondering if it was even them on stage. Shadows of their former selves.
