Tawn Mastrey's Legacy

Tawn is Remembered By A Fan

Of all the well wishers who have contriubuted memories of Tawn, we found this one to be the most poignant.

Having been a personal friend of Tawn's it has hit me hard, it has hit our band hard since we headlined the TRIBUTE FOR TAWN to help start the awareness dealing with her plight.

Tawn is now at peace. No more pain or waiting for an organ to come in. She is gone, buw will never be forgotten. Not by the millions of fans that she had, not by the Rock Bands and musicians that she helped lauch their careers, not the the hundreds and thousands that knew of her health issues and not by the band METAL KNIGHTS. The fact that our lead singer Razor was a friend of Tawns makes it all the more hard. Razor was a Rock DJ in the late 80's thru the mid 90's and it was TAWN that took him under her wing and did whatever she could to help a rock jock on a station in Palm Springs try to get noticed in the huge LA market. She helped by setting up interviews for Razor to interview Rob Halford, members of Iron Maiden and Kiss for his show the HARDLINE. When NO ONE ELSE IN LA RADIO cared, Tawn did.

Razor had another connection to Tawn, and that he too suffered from Hep C, and was blessed enough to recieve a life saving transplant in April of 2005.

We all morn the passing of a great, fighting spirit who was a good person. She will be missed, but NOT FORGOTTEN.

Her legacy will be that she was a great Rock Broadcaster, music was her life, helping people was her life, and in the end, that was what she told me last I talked to her. Win or Lose, people need to know that organ donation is serious, and we need to come out of our shell about it. Tawn, you will be that face. That face that people in the Rock music world will remember as the fighter who wanted the world to get tested for HEP C and to sign up to be an organ donor. You were a hero to many, me for sure, and I will always love you for what you did for me, and for the fight you fought to help save lives, even as yours was being taken away.

Rest sweet my dear, I know there is a great cantina in heaven, where Jimi, Janis, Randy, Dimebag Jim and all the greats are jamming tonight with you there, ROCK N ROLL ANGELS save us a bar stool, and have the tunes cranked because we never know when we might come be with you, until then sweet princess of the airwaves, may God bless you and keep you forever in that special Rock N Roll part of heaven, and rest now, we all know you deserve it.

With all our love to The Mastrey family,

Razor
and METAL KNIGHTS

So late in getting the sad news about our dear Tawn. I was at the station the first day she signed on at KNAC. I thought, man, this chick is the Definition of CooL. Plus, she was the same person, on and off-the-air. A PURE Pure Rocker. I hadn't seen Tawn in a long time, but often thought of her and wondered how she was doing. Especially when cranking a larger than life rock tune. She will be missed, but can't help but feel she's right there with us ... when you turn it up! Godspeed my sister, Love and Peace, Mary the Maniac ps. Tawn, I'm sure you probably already figured, but it was me who ate your lunch that day. I couldn't resist garlic fettucine! :O

I used to work with Tawn during afternoon drive at KNAC (as Ravishing Rebecca) and later spent a lot of time w/ her in Portland OR. The last time I talked to her was when she left for her hometown in Minn. She was one of the nicest, funnest people I ever met in the industry. I am heartbroken by this loss. We rocked together so many times in LA, OC & Portland. I am devastated by the loss. I didn't even know she was sick.

JumpinJennifer: "I have so many memories of Tawn that it would take up pages and pages." - If it gets rid of the douchebag spammer's posts then by all means post away.

I remember listening to Tawn on the air back in grad school at UCI--back when KNAC was a radio station. Shitty end to the story, that's for sure. Having just undergone open-heart surgery, and facing it again soon, I can feel for her family--it's always harder for those not experiencing it.

I was lucky enough to have been able to work with Tawn at KNAC in Long Beach. She was always there for everyone - fan, rock star, band member, anyone. I have so many memories of Tawn that it would take up pages and pages. I will always be thankful for the times we had together. Rock on Tawn.

My dogtags prevented me from knowing I could donate...MAN!!...I wanted to! Courage.

Avengerkiller - 10/4/2007 9:40:52 PM
Same here as Space Lord, Overlord....When I saw KNAC posted a request for a donor I immediately checked to see if I was the matching blood type etc, had I been I'd have offered my assistance immediately. I"m pretty sure most people here would have done the same if circumstances permitted. Don't be quick to judge.

The_Space_Lord - 10/4/2007 8:23:44 PM
Overlord: I've been a registered blood donor since 2001 myself and have always requested that my donated blood be used after each visit for the record.

it's a damn shame, i never knew tawn mastery, never heard her, never saw her cept for her time on " the metal years", however even back in the day what waqs happening on k.n.a.c got back to us here on the east coast, i mean really pam anderson supposdly has hep - c and she seems fine, this woman who actually DID something with her life dies from it, something is very fucked up there..r.i.p

Overlord - 10/4/2007 6:23:06 PM
To everyone.... Tawn Mastrey had type O neg blood and one of you with type O negative blood could have saved her life with giving only a small portion of your liver, not the entire liver but a small portion........... Lets try and change our world and get tested, typed and give the greatest gift of all....life.......... Let not Tawns sacrifice be wasted, Let us learn from this and help those who really need it, whether it be a friend, family member or whatever........ Others die from HEP-C all the time, Let Tawns legacy include that gift from all her fans, friends and family to help save someones life when it matters most. You have two kidneys, give one, you have a healthy liver, give 1/5th of it. At the least give blood , contact your local RED CROSS and tell them you're donating in memory of Tawn Mastrey, the life you save could save your own life in the future, because the life you save today could come back and repay that same action with a donation that could save your life in "your" hour of need. I am type O+ if someone needs type O+ (the most common of blood types)I will glady give blood for you. Pass this on to someone you don't even know give the gift of life. Be an organ and blood donor. Rest in Peace Tawn Mastrey!
