Scott Weiland Officially Charged for DUI. Faces Up to 1 Year in Jail By Newsferatu, Writer Wednesday, December 12, 2007 @ 5:52 PM
The 40-year-old singer was arrested November 21 after crashing his car on a highway. He refused to take a blood or urine test as required by law, city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan said.
Weiland, who had a DUI conviction in 2004, could face eight days to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine if convicted of the misdemeanor count, Mateljan said.
Weiland, who is free on $40,000 bail, was to be arraigned Thursday.
"Scott is looking forward to having this matter cleared up in court tomorrow,'' his publicist Mitch Schneider said Wednesday.
The singer has had a long battle with drug use. He was arrested for heroin possession in California in 1995. He served five months in jail in 1999 and was arrested again in 2003. Prosecutors charged him with felony heroin and cocaine possession in that case, but dismissed the count after he completed a drug rehabilitation program.
