This official statement was just posted on the Scorpions official website:

"Important message to our fans:

It was always our pleasure, our purpose in life, our passion and we were fortunate enough to make music for you - whether it was live on stage or in the studio, creating new songs.

While we were working on our album these past few months, we could literally feel how powerful and creative our work was – and how much fun we were still having, in the process. But there was also something else: We want to end the Scorpions' extraordinary career on a high note. We are extremely grateful for the fact that we still have the same passion for music we’ve always had since the beginning. This is why, especially now, we agree we have reached the end of the road. We finish our career with an album we consider to be one of the best we have ever recorded and with a tour that will start in our home country Germany and take us to five different continents over the next few years.

We want you, our fans, to be the first to know about this. Thank you for your never-ending support throughout the years!

We uploaded the very first snippets from our new album for you here. And now… let’s get the party started and get ready for a Sting in the Tail!

See you on the world tour."

Yours,
Scorpions

ummm not for nothin there cannabeast/blobber, but herman rarebell was the drummer for the scorps not the bassist ( james kottak replaced him) the bassist i believe is francis buchloz or at least was anyway, secondly the scorps are a true class act in rock n roll and deliver

MichaelCMTX - It probably wouldn't have stuck anyway because according to Scott Gorham via That Metal Show, if Philip were alive today they'd be out on tour right now. Which probably would have been ok because unlike Kiss, there wouldn't have been merchandising up the ying yang, and unlike a lot of other bands, Philip's singing style would have allowed him to still sing like he used to. He might have been gray and wrinkled today, but he'd probably sound great...... kinda like Lemmy. lol.

Good observation Fizz, this farewell tour could keep getting added to for another 8 years. I figured the only farewell tour that ever truly stuck was Thin Lizzy 1983, but time proved even THAT wrong-- and with the frontman and main songwriter dead.

I wish the same realiztion would've dawned on them 25 years ago when it actually would've been a high note.

Wish the same realization would dawn on Ozzy.....

They're also listed on the website for the M3 Rockfest in Maryland on June 19th.

I'll be damned. They may have a change of heart somewhere along the way, but if they do manage to stay "retired" for any length of time, I think they might actually make it stick. They're at the age now where a reunion sometime in the future is going to be unlikely. Of course, it could just be more bullshit, a la Kiss.
