Knowing how remote the chances of seeing the reformation of the original Appetite For Destruction lineup are, most Guns N Roses fans now find themselves attending a number of different shows at different size venues in order to see their heroes in the flesh. While William Bruce Rose Jnr. continues to tour the Guns N Roses name and with Velvet Revolver on hold, Slash has re-ignited his solo career with a recently released self titled album (this follows 1995's "Its Five O Clock Somewhere" and 2000's "Aint Life Grand"). A short European run to promote this work is currently taking place and tonights show in Dublin followed his appearance at Glastonbury's 40th birthday celebrations last weekend.

Vicar Street is a small venue in Dublin city centre located on Thomas Street, one kilometere from Trinity College. Its capacity is 1000 and this show sold out in minutes when tickets were released last month. The crowd were crammed in from 8pm and at a minute to 9pm, the house lights were killed.Ripping into "Ghost" off the new album for openers, the 900 people on the floor standing section swayed from wall to wall. However, even though Slash's band delivered the tune note perfectly, it immediately became apparent that there was a problem with Myles Kennedy's voice. This was quickly addressed before the second song. "I gonna need your help tonight Dublin. I've got the flu and my throat hurts", explained Kennedy to a psyched crowd. This declaration didnt phase the crowd one bit with a round of applause offered in appreciation of his willingness to perform while ill, rather than cancel the show.

A wide selection of material was played during the hour and forty minutes performance. Material from his entire career (solo work, Velvet Revolver and Guns N Roses) was delivered with a ferocity that resulted in an electric atmosphere in the venue. Around the half hour mark, Kennedy's voice more or less seized up altogether. His role thereafter consisted of vocal conductor to the crowd for the rest of the evening. The audience's knowledge of Slash's work to date proved flawless with every line of every song played thereafter recited word by word. "We came here to give you guys a great show tonight. You've given us a great show Dublin", was how Kennedy summed up the crowds vocal performance. Having been introduced to Phil Lynott's (Thin Lizzy) mother Philomena before the show who presented him with a mini-statue of her son, Slash told the crowd, "I cant think of any other city in the world that makes me feel so welcome every time I come here. You're amazing Dublin".
