While having to acknowledge that I've never really been all that into the band, the new TYKETTO album goes a long way in making me question just how much I've been missing out on.

The Reach album finds Danny Vaughn and company in their melodic hard rock comfort zone to be sure, but the band does go all out on a lot of the music. While I was a little unmoved by the title track that opens the disc, it does have that big grandiose feel to it that I know a lot of fans will enjoy.

TYKETTO surely knows how give an electric charge to their more uptempo numbers. Songs like "I Need It Now", "Sparks Will Fly" and "Tearing Down The Sky" crackle with energy. They even have a whipsmart ballad that I thoroughly enjoyed called "Letting Go".

I thought "The Fastest Man Alive" failed to live up to the images conjured up by the song's title. The band's other ballad "Scream" made me want to do exactly that with the song's complete and unfortunate sense of the mediocre. I don't necessarily subscribe to the anti-money lyrics in "Big Money" but the song as a whole is excellent. The more aggressive bent of the guitar work in the song helped me really get into what I was hearing. In the meantime, "Remember My Name" has a great line in "Life is Easy / It's living that's hard". "Kick Like A Mule" is an adrenaline fueled jump start for your heart.

TYKETTO saved the best for last on Reach, closing the album with the mid-to-uptempo track "The Run". I loved the song's intro and the entirety of the band's performance is flawless. The storytelling in the song lyrics is outstanding and Vaughn's vocal turn only serves to heighten the anticipation to hear the song again.

I'd love it if Reach helped the band to 'reach' a wider audience because after all, it certainly got my attention. Whether that happens or not, TYKETTO has unleashed an album that should grab the melodic rock world's ear while simultaneously giving their already establish fan loyalists an album worthy of their admiration.
