Static-X frontman Wayne Static is the latest rocker to lend his voice to the upcoming soundtrack for the film adaptation of Anne Rice's Queen Of The Damned. Wayne went into a Los Angeles studio last week to record vocals for a song called "Not Meant For Me" that will be featured on the soundtrack, which is being helmed by Korn’s Jonathan Davis and former Oingo Boingo keyboardist Richard Gibbs.
The track was penned by Davis and Gibbs, whom was present at the session with Static. “I have met Jonathan before, he is a fan of Static-X and I am a huge fan of his, says Static.” “It was a bit strange at first because this song is very different for me. In the end it we were all really happy with it. It came out great - I just heard the master last night and I am impressed.”
Other vocalists who have recorded tracks for the project include Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park's Chester Bennington, Disturbed's David Draiman, Orgy's Jay Gordon, and Jeff Scott Soto. The vocalists were selected by the Korn frontman and Warner Bros./Reprise chairman Tom Whalley to replace Davis, who was originalkly supposed to sing all the songs but was aced out do to legal entanglements. David then wanted to have Soto fill in for him on all tracks but the organizers of the project later decided otherwise.
Other songs on the soundtrack, due February 19th, include Disturbed's "Down With the Sickness," Papa Roach's "Dead Cell" and Deftones' "Change (In the House of Flies)." The late R&B singer Aaliyah, who co-stars in the movie, does not appear on the soundtrack.
Wayne, along with bandmates Ken Jay (drums), Tony Campos (bass) and Tripp Eisen (guitar), will be setting out on the road co-headlining with Soulfly beginning on January 31st in San Francisco, CA. The band's live show garnered stellar reviews on their recent Family Values trek with the likes of Linkin Park, Stone Temple Pilots and Staind. For this run across the U.S. they promise a longer set with more material from their sophomore release, Machine.
