Nightwish Split Gets Ugly By Newsferatu, Writer Thursday, October 27, 2005 @ 8:51 AM
Nightwish are huge in Finland so the break up is frnot page news, and it does not look like the two sides will be talking face-to-face any time soon. The pair haven't been in direct contact and Holopainen says, "Settling things seems like a distant dream. I think that right now it's completely impossible."
Holopainen refutes Turunen claims and attempts to put a more human touch on the sometimes cold facts: "The band did not criticize Marcelo as Tarja's husband, but as her manager and businessman, and how he influenced the band," refutes the keyboardist.
"Marcelo's country of origin has nothing to do with the critique. However, the band still suspects his motives."
The mild-mannered Holopainen says they have always taken Tarja seriously. They wanted to have her in the band because of what she was and Tarja's comment, "Not staying as the band's own girl," is extremely ridiculous, as jealousy had anything to do with (the decision). "We have tried to respect Tarja as the singer and as the icon of the band."
In his eyes, the band has tried to be flexible, accommodating her request to travel by plane (with Marcelo) instead of on the tour bus and if/when she didn't want to do interviews, Holopainen handled them.
"That's how we tried show Tarja that we cared about her." It pains Tuomas that 15 years of friendship have been broken, but he and the rest of the band stands by the decision, the comments and the way the comments were published. "It just would have been impossible to handle
this in any other way."
