Major League Baseball catcher Mike Piazza joined Skid Row on stage during a free show at the Times Square Hard Rock Cafe on Sunday, October 29th. The show was hosted by Eddie Trunk who organizes annual Halloween rock shows in New York. Before the Skids hit the stage a costume contest was held which was judged by famed producer Michael Wagener and Piazza. Among the costumed finalists were audience members dressed as Ace Frehley and Billy Gibbons. After a lengthy Skid Row set which included plenty of classic as well as new material, Piazza joined the band on stage for a rousing encore of 'Youth Gone Wild'.
Audioslave singer Chris Cornell narrowly escaped serious injury or worse when his motorcycle was rear-ended by a truck in the Studio City area of Los Angeles last Tuesday (October 24th), according to the New York Post. Cornell was catapulted 20 feet into the air and suffered severe cuts and bruises, although he was able to get up and walk away from the accident. His $50,000 bike, however, was completely destroyed. According to a spokesperson, the vocalist returned to the studio later that day to continue working on his second solo album.
Deicide have just completed filming live concert footage for their forthcoming DVD, slated for a February 2007 release in the US and January 2007 in the UK and Europe. The band's first ever DVD will include exclusive live footage of a reincarnated Deicide and will landmark the guitar shredding duo, Jack Owen (ex-Cannibal Corpse) and Ralph Santolla (ex-Iced Earth/Death). Deicide is currently on tour supporting their latest album, The Stench Of Redemption.
A trailer of Iced Earth's Alive In Athens show, which is released on DVD this week by Century Media Records, has been posted here. The Alive In Athens DVD consists of recently unearthed footage of shows which were recorded and filmed on January 23rd and January 24th, 1999, at the Rodon Club in Athens, Greece. According to a press release, "only three cameras were present at the show, the energy and atmosphere of the material is still overwhelming. The sound has been re-mastered for 5.1 DTS surround sound to offer the best quality live feeling. It is an authentic document of an intense and still classic show, delivering more than 2-½ hours of the best Metal ever recorded live!"
