Rise of the Roach Tour Brings The Heat To The Port On July 23rd

Despite near triple-digit temperatures and heat advisories across Southeast Idaho, rock fans turned out in force for the Rise of the Roach Tour when it stopped at The Port in Pocatello on July 23, 2026. Featuring Canadian rockers AUTUMN KINGS, pop-punk favorites SET IT OFF, and headliners PAPA ROACH, the evening delivered an energetic performance that easily overshadowed the sweltering weather. The concert also served as a much smoother return to Pocatello for PAPA ROACH. The band's previous appearance in Idaho was plagued by severe weather delays and confusion. Storms forced the show to pause, and miscommunication even led many concertgoers to believe the event had been canceled altogether. Fortunately, once conditions were declared safe, PAPA ROACH eventually took the stage for those who stayed. This year's concert couldn't have been more different. While the weather was certainly hot, it cooperated, allowing the evening to unfold without interruption.

The Port once again proved to be an excellent venue. Staff members and security personnel were friendly, helpful, and professional throughout the evening, creating a welcoming atmosphere from the moment fans arrived. Unfortunately, the biggest disappointment of the night wasn't the weather, it was the merchandise booth. Waiting nearly two hours to purchase a T-shirt is simply unacceptable. The line moved painfully slowly, causing many fans to miss most or all of AUTUMN KINGS' set. Concert merchandise has become an important part of the live music experience, but organizers need to find a way to improve the process, so fans don't have to choose between buying a souvenir and seeing the opening acts.

AUTUMN KINGS made a strong first impression. The Canadian rock band has steadily built a following through hard-hitting modern rock songs and relentless touring. They brought impressive energy to the stage despite performing in extreme heat. I honestly don't know how they managed to play while wearing long-sleeved white dress shirts, ties, and black slacks. Their enthusiasm never faded, and they sounded tight and polished throughout their set.

Next up was SET IT OFF, the Florida-based band known for blending pop-punk, alternative rock, and pop into an energetic live show. They were simply fun to watch. The drummer looked like he was having the time of his life behind the kit, while frontman Cody Carson kept the audience engaged from start to finish. Their set was full of energy, and although I wasn’t familiar with their songs, the sound quality was solid.

As the sun began to set and temperatures finally started to cool by a few degrees, PAPA ROACH took the stage. Just like roaches in the dark, the fans truly came alive. Celebrating more than three decades together, the California rock veterans continue to prove why they remain one of the most respected live bands in modern rock. From the opening moments, frontman Jacoby Shaddix commanded the audience with incredible stage presence. He rarely stood still, dancing across the stage, interacting with every section of the crowd, and even making his way into the audience to connect with fans up close. As he passed directly in front of me, I could hear his voice, proving that the vocals were definitely live. His energy was contagious, and the rest of the band matched his intensity throughout the performance.

If I had one criticism of the production, it would be the front lighting. From my assigned location near the soundboard, the lighting on the band members was surprisingly minimal, making it difficult to clearly see them during much of the show. While the visual effects looked impressive overall, a bit more front illumination would have made the performance easier to appreciate from farther back in the venue.

One of the evening's most meaningful moments came when Shaddix paused to deliver PAPA ROACH’s well-known message promoting suicide prevention and mental health awareness. It's more than just a public service announcement; it's a heartfelt reminder that no one has to struggle alone. Leaving the light on was once just a Motel 6 slogan, but now PAPA ROACH has turned it into a movement to talk away the dark that plagues people every day. Seeing a band use its platform to encourage people to seek help and support one another adds a level of authenticity that resonates far beyond the music.

By the end of the night, the heat advisories had given way to cooler temperatures, but the energy inside The Port never faded. From the professionalism of the venue staff to three entertaining performances, the Rise of the Roach Tour delivered a memorable evening of live music. Aside from the frustratingly long merchandise lines and the dim front lighting during PAPA ROACH’s set, there was very little to complain about. PAPA ROACH continues to prove that they're one of rock's premier live acts, and with strong support from AUTUMN KINGS and SET IT OFF, this is a tour that's well worth seeing. If this tour is coming anywhere near your city, don't hesitate. Grab a ticket, arrive early for merch, and enjoy a great show.
