THE ROCK ORCHESTRA BY CANDLELIGHT lit up the Frontier Center in Idaho Falls, Idaho, on September 18, 2026. I had never heard of them before I was offered the opportunity to review the show, so I went in without really knowing what to expect. After seeing the performance, I can definitely say I was surprised by just how heavy it was. I expected something a little more traditional, but I actually really enjoyed the unexpected heaviness of the set.

From the moment the show started, I found myself captivated by both the sound and the visuals. The newly remodeled venue was a great place to see the performance, and I thought the production made excellent use of the updated space. The stage was packed with talented musicians, including vocalists, strings, horns, woodwinds, and percussionists. The vibrant lighting, eccentric costumes, and sparkling masks added even more fascination to the experience. There was so much happening on stage that even when I wasn't focused on the music, I always had something else catching my attention.

I also had a lot of fun watching the performers. Everyone on stage was clearly talented, but what stood out to me was how much energy they brought to the performance. I could tell they were having fun with the music, and that energy made its way into the audience. Watching them interact with each other while putting their own artistic spin on familiar songs made the entire performance feel lively and engaging.

The singers were fantastic. They belted out the vocals with precision and strength that filled the auditorium. And then there was the flutist. I don't think I've ever seen someone play the flute while headbanging, but apparently there is a first time for everything. Watching him completely get into a rock song was one of those little moments that made me smile and made the show even more memorable. It's just not something I see every day.

The quality of the sound was phenomenal. With a sizeable orchestra and multiple vocalists all going at once, there is a lot to balance, but I felt like everything came together perfectly. I enjoyed hearing the original songs with an exciting new twist while keeping the energy and punch I would expect from a live rock show. The arrangements gave the songs a fresh feel without losing what made them recognizable in the first place.

One of the biggest surprises of the night for me was KORN's “Freak on a Leash.” I definitely did not expect to hear that one. It was a pretty shocking addition to the setlist, but I thought it fit surprisingly well with the heavier direction of the show. For me, it was easily one of the highlights of the night, but from the reaction of others around me, I could tell they were less than impressed.

If I had one complaint about the setlist, it would be that I felt there was a little too much repetition from the same bands. There were two SYSTEM OF A DOWN songs, two METALLICA songs, and two GUNS N' ROSES songs. I enjoy all of those bands, and I understand why their music works so well for this kind of performance. Still, there is so much great rock and metal music out there that I would have personally liked to hear them dig a little deeper. Throwing in some less expected bands and songs could have made an already entertaining set even more interesting for me.

Even with that small criticism, I couldn't overlook the amount of talent on the stage. I found myself constantly looking around and taking in everything that was happening. Between the orchestra, the singers, the lighting, the costumes, and the theatrical elements, there was a lot to experience. The performers clearly knew how to put on a show, and the music had more than enough power to keep me engaged throughout the night.

Going into the show, I expected THE ROCK ORCHESTRA BY CANDLELIGHT to be more of a classical experience with a rock influence. What I got was much more of a hard rock show than I expected, and honestly, I was completely fine with that. I had a great time, and I left feeling like I had experienced something a little different from the usual concert.

If you're expecting a quiet evening of classical music by candlelight, I think you'll be in for a surprise. But if you're looking for a rock and roll show with an interesting twist, I think you'll have a lot of fun with THE ROCK ORCHESTRA BY CANDLELIGHT. I certainly did.
